Murky Waters…

The stream was murky and filled with debris, but we had to cross it.

My children and I enjoy hiking post rain. The mountains are always beautiful, and the air is crisp and clean. Our favorite part is all the new streams that form. We love watching them Cut their way through the trails, roaring along side our hike and tossing stones as we go, obviously walking through the shallows.

While we were hiking, we came across a river-like stream. We were about to step into the water when we noticed that it was particularly murky and somewhat overwhelmed by debris. We had to cross the stream nonetheless, but I felt a bit uneasy about crossing this stream. It seemed a bit dangerous. I decided that we should find a better way to cross. After a small search, we came across a bridge that seemed to lead safely across the river. So we walked safely across.

I was reminded of the warnings in the book of Zechariah. The Lord used this prophet as an encouragement to us to avoid the murky waters of sin and to reject the debris of false teachings, and to seek the safe path of righteousness and truth that God provide’s. By turning away from sin and rejecting false teaching, we can experience the freedom and joy that comes from a life surrendered to God.

“True freedom comes when we turn to God and find forgiveness and grace.”

John MacArthur

Lord, help me to walk the path of righteousness. Help me to trust in your promises and your faithfulness. Help me, Father, to be vigilant in discerning truth from error, and to hold fast to your Word.

As we travel the trails of this life, as we find ourselves overwhelmed or overjoyed, let us remember that God is with us, guiding us along the path, leading us safely home.

In Him, with love
