"Seeing and Savoring"

Greater Than Solomon!

Even when I wander into the deep, dark forest of my own thoughts, and venture into the thickest part of the maze that is my imagination, there is always a voice beckoning me back to the light. It’s not magic, but Jesus, my Savior, offering me forgiveness despite my rebellious thoughts.

I just finished reading chapter six of John Piper’s “Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ.” As someone who struggles with dark thoughts, I initially found the chapter spooky. However, it reminded me that I am never alone. Jesus, fully God and fully man, knows everything, even my darkest thoughts. Yet, despite my flaws and shortcomings, he loves me unconditionally and offers me forgiveness and mercy through His sacrifice on the cross.

Jesus is not just a wise teacher or moral example, but he is the Son of God. His knowledge of our thoughts and actions may be unnerving, but it also means that we can come to him with complete honesty, knowing that he already knows the truth. We can confess our sins and ask for forgiveness, knowing that we will be met with grace and mercy.

The knowledge of Jesus’ deity should humble us and give us hope, knowing that we serve a God who loves us deeply, despite our flaws and shortcomings. We can take comfort in His presence and strive to deepen our relationship with Him, knowing that he is always with us, ready to guide us out of the forest of private thoughts and back to his loving arms. Let us not hide or pretend to be someone we’re not, but come to Him broken and with complete honesty.

In Him, with Love
