The Psalms

Reflection Through Psalm 3.

Woke up this morning in a cloud of frustration seasoned by the salt of worry. Concerns for the people I love and anxieties over the evils plaguing our culture – they loomed over me, like a storm ready to burst. Yet, in the quiet light of dawn, there was Psalm 3, waiting for me in the crisp pages of my Bible. As I traced the lines of David’s words, I found a mirror to my own anxieties. Enemies seeming too numerous to count, odds that felt insurmountable, and a nagging chorus doubting God’s promise of deliverance.

But David – a man who chased after God’s own heart – in the midst of the storm, found his refuge in God. He saw God as his shield, his glory, the one who lifts up his head. It was as if I was seeing a beacon of steadfast faith, a light of hope cutting through the darkest clouds of life’s struggles. It dawned on me then – this same shield, this same lifter of heads, is present for me, for all of us. God is there, listening, watching, being our safeguard in the battles of life.

The realization brought peace to my heart. Like David, I knew I could rest and rise again, held in God’s sustaining grasp. Even when anxiety and fears surround me in their tens of thousands, I can declare with all my heart, “Arise, O Lord! Save me, O my God!” Salvation, it struck me, is God’s domain. It’s His pledge, His dedication to us. It felt like an invitation to step forward in faith today and welcome the tranquility and certainty that come from being God’s child.

Despite the storms of life, my heart was humming: “Your blessing is upon your people!” (Psalm 3:8). I found a comforting warmth in the truth that we’re never alone, that we’re loved, no matter what season of life we’re journeying through. This morning, then, wasn’t just another morning. It was a reminder of the faith that shields me, of the God who lifts me up, and of the hope that anchors me.

In Him, with love
